WAPA Contractors Begin Installation of New LED Streetlights

Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) contractors have begun work in several locations across St. Thomas and St. Croix on Monday, May 8, to replace streetlight fixtures with new LED lights that will provide better lighting and lower operating costs.

The work to replace the streetlights will begin at 7 a.m. Monday and continue each weekday until 5 p.m. until the project is completed around the end of June.

On Monday, crews will be working on the west end of St. Thomas in Estates Bordeaux, Santa Maria, Hope and Caret Bay, while on St. Croix, crews will work in areas including Golden Rock, Little Princesse, La Grande Princesse and Mount Pleasant, as well as Estates Diamond, Williams Delight and Judith’s Fancy.

Motorists who traverse these areas are asked to be mindful of the crew’s presence on the roadway while work is ongoing.

The contractors on the project are Fortress Electric on St. Croix and Bryan’s Electric on St. Thomas.
