Two people were killed and nine injured in a pair of traffic accidents that took place Sunday on St. Croix.
According to the V.I. Police Department:
– At about 6:20 p.m. the 911 call center dispatched the Traffic Division to a report of an auto accident on the Melvin H. Evans Highway in the vicinity of Hope Road by the Hovensa Training Center.
The police report said an 88-year-old woman, whose name was not released, was driving east on Melvin Evans Highway and made a right turn to enter onto Hope Road. She impacted a vehicle carrying five people, including the driver.
All five passengers suffered injuries and were treated at the Juan F. Luis Hospital. The 88-year–old female driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel and was transported to the morgue by the morgue attendant.
– At 8:02 p.m. Sunday, Traffic Division was dispatched to the Northside Road, in the vicinity of the “In and Out Service Station” in Estate Glynn.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver, name and age not disclosed by police, was traveling south on the Northside Road. As he reached the Midland Road Intersection another vehicle cut across the northbound lane and collided into the first vehicle. The 34-year-old driver was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel and he was transported to morgue.
The four passengers, including the driver of the other vehicle, were transported to the Juan F. Hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Both accidents are still under investigation.
