Young Woman Dies in Early Morning Crash

A 19-year-old woman died at the scene of an early morning car crash and a second was injured, the V.I. Police Department reported.

Police identified the victim as Anyliah Fawkes, a resident of the I. M. Hodge Pavilion in Frederiksted. She was the driver, police said.

The 911 center received a report at 4 a.m., reporting that a vehicle had overturned by the Plaza Extra East Shopping Center. The vehicle had been traveling from eastbound at a high rate of speed, lost control and collided with a light pole in the parking lot of the Plaza Extra Shopping Center.

The 19-year-old passenger, 19-year-old Christa Rice, age 19 of Estate Two Williams in Frederiksted, was taken to the Juan F. Luis Hospital for her injuries. Police said Monday their records show she had also been involved in another auto accident by Plaza Extra West in early December.
