Man and Woman Shot in Frederiksted

A man and woman received gunshot wounds late Friday when the car they were in with one other woman was fired on by six gunmen, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to the police, 911 dispatchers received a call at 11:54 p.m. Friday of someone being shot in the area of White Bay. Officers responding to the scene discovered a black man who’d sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his upper body, a woman with a gunshot wound to her left leg, and another woman who was unharmed.

The preliminary police report said the two victims, along with a third passenger, had just returned to their residence in the Walter IM Hodge Housing Community. While the trio sat in their parked vehicle, six men dressed in all black emerged and opened fire on the vehicle.

The trio fled the area in their vehicle towards the area of White Bay to evade the suspects and get assistance, police said.

Police identified the victims as Jah-heem Lee, 20 of Estate Mt. Pleasant-West, Shamara Santana, 40 of Walter IM Hodge Pavilion. Said Wallace, 18 of Walter IM Hodge Pavilion, the daughter of Shamara Santana, was also in the vehicle but escaped gunfire.

The victims were transported to the Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center’s Emergency Room for further treatment. Detectives and officers are continuing their investigation into this matter.
