25 Cyclists Compete in Pt. Udall Time Trial Challenge: Stephen Swanton Claims First Place

Twenty-five determined cyclists participated in the Pt. Udall Time Trial Challenge on Easter morning, braving the 3.6-mile course that started from the Divi Hotel and finished at the peak of Pt. Udall. The event was hosted by the Virgin Islands Cycling Federation.

Stephen Swanton conquered the challenging route in a swift 11:55, securing not only the race win but also claiming the coveted King of the Mountain title on Strava for that segment. Following closely behind was Alex Betancourt, clocking in at 12:12, with David Morales securing the third spot overall in 12:47. Notably, Elite female cyclist Robin Seila showcased her talent, finishing with an impressive time of 13:51.

In his inaugural race in the Expert category, Herbert “Star” Mathurin dominated his division with a remarkable time of 13:05. Jerry Remie narrowly edged out Kevin Burton by a mere second, finishing in 14:23 for the second spot.

ian Otis excelled in the Sport category, clinching the top position with an impressive time of 14:16. With less than a second separating them, Joshua Belardo and Guy Augustin secured the second and third spots, respectively.

The Masters category witnessed Yves Abraham’s commanding performance, clocking in at 16:59 on the undulating course. James Matthew secured the second spot in 18:06, followed by Nelson Rojas in third place with a time of 18:35.

Laverne Fredericksen exhibited sheer determination, crossing the finish line in 18:42. Myrtle Emmanuel showcased a commendable effort, securing the second position with a time of 19:18. Jody Goodrich demonstrated significant improvement from last year, shaving off over a minute from her previous time, finishing third in 19:33.

One of the most impressive times of the morning was posted by 12-yr-old junior rider, Xander Morales. His time was 13:54. Randy Williams, age 14, was second in 20:59.

The next event on the VI Cycling Federation schedule will be held on Sunday, April 14. The East End Road Race will begin at 7 a.m. in Solitude. For more details, call 513-2707.
