Vishnu “Victor” Chugani Passes

Vishnu “Victor” Chugani

Vishnu (Victor) Chugani, a pillar of strength and kindness, passed away on March 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy adorned with love and resilience. Born in Karachi, India (Pre-Partition) in 1939, Vishnu’s life was a testament to devotion, family, and community.

Amidst the turmoil of Partition, Vishnu and his family sought refuge in Pune, embarking on a journey marked by courage and determination. As a young adult, Vishnu ventured into the realm of business, traveling to Hong Kong and around the world. Destiny intertwined his path with Indra Chugani and in 1964, their love culminated in marriage in Pune, paving the way for a lifelong journey together.

The United States Virgin Islands became their sanctuary, where Vishnu and Indra nurtured their forever home and were blessed with their cherished children, Gobind and Sharmila. Vishnu’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished with the establishment of House of Rajah, a 51-year-old jewelry empire spanning generations and continents.

Yet, Vishnu’s life transcended business success; it was woven with threads of community service and cultural enrichment. As a member of various organizations, including a charter member of the St. Thomas Rotary Club and the India Association of the VI, and a member of the United Way and Chamber of Commerce, Vishnu’s impact was profound. Vishnu was also one of the founders of the first Indian Radio Program in the Virgin Islands. On the radio, Vishnu and other community leaders knitted the community together culturally by featuring Indian music and sharing announcements, such as birthdays, anniversaries, and other significant cultural events.

Vishnu’s grace, zest for life, and charming persona endeared him to all, attracting friends and customers from every corner of the globe. He was celebrated as a respected advisor and gentleman.

For 35 years, Vishnu cared for his wife Indra amidst her health struggles, displaying unwavering devotion without complaint. Throughout it all, he radiated gratitude and reminded others of the abundance of blessings in his life. Vishnu’s selflessness and positivity make him a cherished model of a pure soul in our hearts.

Vishnu’s legacy extends beyond the bounds of time, his teachings and stories echoing through the hearts of his loved ones. His children stand as a testament to his greatness, guided by his wisdom and resilience. He is survived by his children, Gobind & Kusum, Sharmila & Manoj, and his grandchildren, Alisha, Ashwin and Shaina. Brothers Mohan, Gulu, and Raju along with many extended family members. Family and friends miss him dearly and he will be forever in our hearts.

As we bid farewell to Vishnu, we cherish family memories of him and Indra, savoring life’s simple pleasures with laughter and love. Funeral services will be held at Turnbull Funeral Home on Thursday, March 21 from 8-9 AM and Prayer Services will be held at the Indian Cultural Center on Saturday, March 23, from 7-8 PM.

Om Shanti

In loving remembrance,
Chugani and Aswani Family
