Nurses With Lapsed or Inactive Licenses: Amnesty Period to Be Followed by Fee Increases

As of January 2024, a new fee schedule has been implemented at the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure (VIBNL). The board has approved an amnesty period that ends April 30 for nurses with an inactive or a lapsed license during the last two renewal years. Nurses wishing to renew their license must complete the application process via the Virgin Islands Board of Nurse Licensure website at https://vibnl.vi.gov.

According to the Nurse Practice Act §97(c), “Any person practicing nursing during the time his or her license has lapsed shall be considered an illegal practitioner and shall be subject to the penalty provided for violations of this subchapter.”

After the amnesty period has closed, the new implemented fees are:

Renewal Registered Nurse: $175

+Renewal Advance Practice Registered Nurse: $40 = $215

Renewal Licensed Practical Nurse: $150

Renewal Certified Nurse Assistant: $100

Lapsed Renewal Application Fee (Active Status): $250

Lapsed Renewal Application Fee (Inactive Status): $300

Please note for every lapse cycle you will be required to pay a lapse fee for every year lapsed and late administrative fee of $100.
