V.I. Bureau of Internal Revenue Extends Hours for Filing of Tax Returns

V.I. Bureau of Internal Revenue

Joel A. Lee, CPA, director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue (Bureau), reminds the public that hours of operation for tax day have been extended on both Monday and Tuesday for the convenience of the taxpayers.

For Monday, April 17, the Bureau’s offices on St. Thomas and St. Croix will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For Tuesday, April 18, the Bureau’s offices on St. Thomas and St. Croix will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The St. John office will remain open until 5 p.m. on both days.

Taxpayers who are unable to file their 2022 returns by the due date are reminded that they can file an extension by using Form 4868. To obtain approval of the extension, the taxpayer must properly estimate the tax liability due and file Form 4868 no later than April 18, 2023. The extension is only for the filing of the tax return. Taxpayers who owe taxes must pay the tax due on April 18 to avoid paying a penalty. The extension will be granted until Oct. 16.

Questions concerning the extended office hours can be directed to the Processing Division at 715-1040, ext. 2223.
