An 81-year-old St. Thomas man was confirmed Thursday as U.S. Virgin Island’s 27th COVID-19 related death by the V.I. Department of Health.

The name of the deceased was not released by the DOH.

The department reminded residents that, even as the number of island residents who have been vaccinated against the disease increases, they should still continue following proper protocols to slow the spread of COVID-19. These safety measures include staying at home, practicing social distancing, wearing a mask when in company of others outside of those in your household, cleaning frequently used areas thoroughly, and washing your hands often with soap and warm water.

Suspected COVID cases can be reported by calling 340-712-6299 or 340-776-1519. More information is available on the Department of Health website. COVID-19 updates can be obtained by texting COVID19USVI to 888777.
