STX Student Being Treated in Puerto Rico After Being Struck by Car

A 14-year-old student at Alfredo Andrews Elementary School was injured Monday when he was struck by a car entering the school property, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, at around 3:14 p.m. Monday a man driving a black SUV on the Mon Bijou Road, made a left turn to traverse onto the school’s road , struck a vehicle, veered left and struck the boy, who was walking on the grassy area in front of the school.

The vehicle then proceeded onto the school’s property, police said.

The boy sustained internal damages – and was airlifted to a San Juan, Puerto Rico, medical center for further treatment for his injuries sustained from the accident. He remains in critical condition.

Police did not identify the victim, in accordance with department policy, or the driver. The incident remains open pending further investigation by the Traffic Investigations Bureau.
