DHS to Host Workshops on Compassion, Fatigue, Grief Counseling

The V.I. Department of Human Services (DHS) is partnering with the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services to host workshops on post disaster stress and trauma.  Green Cross Academy of Traumatology will conduct the workshops on St. Thomas and St. Croix.

“We are excited about the opportunity to offer disaster survivors these workshops as the health and welfare of residents are significant to the territory’s recovery,” said DHS Commissioner Felecia L. Blyden.

The title of the workshops is “Compassion, Fatigue and Grief Counseling Training,” and they are open to the public.

The workshops will take place on May 7, 8 and 9 on St. Thomas.

The first session of the workshop will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, May 7, at 1303 Hospital Ground, Knud Hansen Complex, (DHS video conference room).

The second session will take place from 10 a.m. to 7 pm., Tuesday, May 8, Knud Hansen Complex.

The “Train the Trainer” session will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 9, Knud Hansen Complex.

The Workshops will take place on May 10, 11 and 12 on St Croix

The first session of the workshop will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11, at Frederiksted Head Start.

The second session will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Frederiksted Head Start.

The “Train the Trainer” session will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 12, at the Cardiac Center, Gov. Juan F. Luis Medical Center.

Participation in the workshops offers seven continuing education units (CEUs).
