Man Charged in Frederiksted Assault, Robbery

A 44-year-old Crucian man was arrested Thursday and charged with an assault and robbery that took place the previous morning, the V.I. Police Department said.

The police identified the suspect as Billy Heywood.

According to police, at about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Heywood approached a man on King Street in Frederiksted and began striking him with a broom stick on his leg and wrist.

Heywood then took the victim’s wallet out of his pocket and took all of his money, police said.

He has been charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and third-degree assault. Bail was set at $75,000 and he was remanded to Golden Grove Correctional Facility.
