Two armed, masked men robbed the Sunshine Mall Kmart early Saturday and made off with an undetermined amount of cash, the V.I. Police Department reported.
According to police, the 911 emergency call center received a report of the robbery at about 4:50 a.m.
At the scene, witnesses told the responding officers that two unknown individuals wearing ski masks entered through the back door of the store when the employees were taking out the trash.
The suspects held the store manager at gunpoint and escorted him to the safe, where they took an unknown amount cash from the safe. They then had the store manager and a contractor employee escort them to the the parking area in the rear of Sunshine Mall where a vehicle was parked, with which they made their escape.
The incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau. Police urged anyone with information on the case to contact the CIB at 340 778 2211, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
