Visitor Charged with Bringing Drugs into Golden Grove

A woman who brought a bag with clothing and shoes for an inmate at Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility was arrested Friday when that bag turned out to also contain narcotics, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the prison at 1:38 p.m. Friday to investigate a reported attempt to introduce of narcotics.

At Golden Grove the officers met with a Corrections officer who said 28-year-old Sherifa Petersen had bought a medium-sized clear bag with clothing and shoes for an inmate. The officer said she smelled a strong odor of marijuana from a pair of black Jordan sneakers. the chief Corrections officer had also been present and also detected the odor, police were told.

According to police, when they pulled the sneaker apart, two small clear plastic bag with green leafy substance fell from the soles of the sneakers.

The green leafy substance tested positive for marijuana. Petersen was arrested and charged with introduction of narcotics into the prison. She was remanded to the Golden Grove facility.
