Man Killed in Friday Shooting

Darien Griffith, a 36-year-old resident of Estate Old Castle Coakley, was shot Friday and died at the Juan F. Luis Hospital.

The V.I. Police Department reported the incident Sunday.

It was the fourth homicide on St. Croix since the first of the year, the 11th in the territory.

According to the police report, the 911 center received a call at 8:06 p.m. Friday reporting gunfire. Responding officers found a black man, later identified as Griffith, lying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The emergency medical technicians immediately transported the victim to the Juan Luis Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Further investigation by the VIPD revealed that Griffith had recently been released from prison in 2012.

Police investigating the homicide asked anyone with information to phone the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-712-6024 or 340-712- 6037, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
