Mathurin Pleads Guilty to Manufacturing Marijuana

Raymond Mathurin, 48, of St. Croix, pleaded guilty Monday in District Court on St. Croix to one count of manufacturing a controlled substance, specifically, marijuana, U.S. Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced.

As part of his plea, Mathurin admitted that on June 26, 2014, he was growing a total of 69 marijuana plants near his property on St. Croix, Sharpe’s statement said.

At the conclusion of the hearing, Magistrate Judge George Cannon continued his release pending sentencing. Mathurin’s sentencing date has not been scheduled. He is facing a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and a $100 special assessment.

The case was investigated by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rami S. Badawy.
