Customs Arrests Fugitive at Airport

Officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office on Friday apprehended a man at Cyril E. King Airport wanted for alleged robbery and unauthorized use of a firearm in the commission of a violent crime on St. Croix.

Luis Raul Torres, 31, presented himself for inspection on St. Thomas, seeking travel to Florida, according to the CBP. Officers arrested him when a name check revealed he was the subject of an outstanding warrant for robbery and unauthorized use of a firearm.

After verifying the warrant, CBP contacted the V.I. Police Department, which responded and took custody of the subject.

“Customs and Border Protection is an agency committed to safeguarding America’s borders," said USVI Area Port Director Louis Harrigan. "If during the course of our operations, CBP officers encounter persons wanted by other law enforcement agencies, we take the appropriate law enforcement action.”
“We are proud of our officers’ continuing vigilance and their commitment to keeping communities safe throughout the United States,” Harrigan said.
