Personnel Announces Entrance Exam for Firefighter Positions

A test for the rank of entrance firefighter in the St. Croix District will be given from May 11-15, according to a press release issued on Monday by the V.I. Division of Personnel.
Qualifications include:
1. High school diploma or an equivalency certificate
2. A candidate must possess or be able to qualify for a motor vehicle operator’s license.
3. Candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
4. Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire
5. Candidates must successfully complete national registry EMT certification and Firefighter-I training upon completion of new recruit training within 18 months of employment.
6. No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years;
7. Must be able to meet department’s physical standards
The sign-up period is March 2-13; the study prep manual can be picked up on April 9 and 10; the testing dates are May 11-15.
All interested candidates must sign-up and submit a complete application package at the respective district office by close of business on Friday, March 13. Candidates are strongly advised to pick-up the study preparation manual on the above established date in order to maximize the preparation time for the examination. A valid picture identification is required for study preparation manual pick-up. Candidates who submitted an application prior are required to complete an interest form to notify the Division of Personnel of any changes in mailing address to ensure receipt of confirmed examination notice.
Applicants who have earned a degree in in the following areas will be granted a waiver affixed from sitting the written examination, but they are required to meet all the other established criteria for qualifications. Those areas are Police Science, Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Forensic Science, Fire Prevention, Accounting, Public Administration and/or Business Administration and Psychology.
