While the Friends of V.I. National Park hope that people in the tourism business will attend its Thursday presentation on the state of St. John’s reefs, Friends President Joe Kessler said it’s open to everyone with an interest in coral reefs.
“It’s to make people better informed,” Kessler said.
The State of the Reefs address begins at 6 p.m. at the Westin Resort and Villas Coral Bay Room, located across from the ballroom. Admission is free.
The presentation is targeted toward boat captains, charter crews, dive masters and guides, and water sports staff, Kessler said.
National Park Service biologist Jeff Miller is the presenter. Based on St. John, Miller is the go-to guy when it comes to learning about coral reefs and fisheries.
The Friends want those who interact with tourists to have up-to-date and accurate information to give to visitors when they’re discussing the marine environment.
Kessler said the program is definitely not about the rules and regulations of operating in park waters.
