Rotary Mid Isle Holds Successful Treasure Hunt to Fund Scholarship Program

The Rotary Club of St. Croix Mid Isle’s 9th Annual Motor Treasure Hunt was held last Sunday.
Twelve cars set off at one minute intervals starting at 9.01 a.m. They followed a set route, which took them through Mount Washington, La Grande Princesse, Estate Ruby, La Reine, Scenic Ridge, Upper Love, the Rain Forest, La Grange, Estate Whim, Mount Pleasant and ended at the Renaissance Recreational Center.
The treasure hunt lasted for two hours and twenty-seven minutes covering a 56-mile course. Entrants had to answer questions along the way, which proved exciting and challenging.
The winners were the last two years runner up, car No. 3, crewed by Joan Kupfer, Jackie Mashburn, Sharon Quinn and Toni Mrotz, with 250 penalty points. Second were first time entrants car No. 10 crewed by Patricia Duval-Santiago, Axelle Richards, Monica Robinson-Pereira and Janice Wilson, with 280 penalty points. In third place was car No. 1 crewed by Sharon Early, Karen Poates, Jennie Parrish and Melissa Miller with 300 penalty points. Prizes included stays at hotels on St. Kitts, St. Maarten and St. Thomas.
Contestants were enthusiastic in their praises at the end of the event, as they enjoyed the scenic vistas and mastered the challenging route. Not only was the route scenic, but it kept mainly to asphalted roads, and despite the potholes on Scenic Road East, they really enjoyed the event. They are looking forward to next year’s staging of the event.
The event was sponsored by Diageo USVI, Executive Insurance Services, Marshall & Sterling, Virgin Islands Paving, Guardian Insurance Company, Inter-Ocean Insurance, Food Town, Plaza Extra Supermarket, St. Croix Renaissance Group and Check Point sponsors Caribbean Printing, HH Tire & Battery, Quality Auto Parts, Premium Finance, Angie’s Galleria, WJKC Communications, St. Croix Avis and Premium Leasing.
Rotary Mid Isle thanks the sponsors and entrants, without whom this would not have been possible and all the volunteers who contributed to the success of this event.
