Fundraiser Offers Chance to Meet Obama

A lucky Virgin Islander can win an opportunity to meet President Barack Obama as part of the last political fundraiser to feature the president this year.

The event will be held Thursday in Miami, and according to a news release, the Obama Victory Fund 2012 has authorized a USVI raffle for one ticket to meet Obama at the event and have a photograph taken with him.

The event, titled "Estamos-Unidos" or “We are One,” will also feature Eva Longoria. A local donor will pay for airfare and one night’s hotel for the winner.

The Obama Victory Fund is holding a drawing, in which individuals will be entered each time they contribute $26 – a figure chosen because the event is 26 days before Election Day. Anyone who wants to take part must donate through the USVI online donation link at http://my.barackobama.com/usvirginislandsovfmain, not through other online links.

Tickets for the event are normally $5,000.

Those interested can also obtain a contribution form by contacting the USVI Finance Chair for the Obama Victory Fund,

The Obama Victory Fund held a similar raffle for a chance to meet President Obama June 26 in South Beach, Florida, and St. Thomas resident Helene Smollett won.

The news release calls the raffle "a great opportunity for the USVI to show strong and broad-based support for President Obama’s reelection, and for one lucky Virgin Islander to meet the president."

For more information or to contribute via check or cash, those interested can send an email to the USVI Finance Chair of the Obama Victory Fund 2012 at VI4Obama@gmail.com or call 1-340-776-7235, ext. 1. Contributions must be made by midnight AST Saturday to qualify for the drawing.
