Helen Elizabeth George Vessup

Helen Elizabeth George Vessup died on Friday, Sept. 28, at her residence. She was 82 years old.
She is survived by her son, Ruel Vessup; daughters: Clarice Marchena, Beverly Vessup, Teryle Turnbull; sons-in-law: Leroy Marchena and Elvert Turnbull; grandsons: Garnett Hodge, Franklin Hodge Jr., Tiant DeWindt, Tavis DeWindt and Jaren Turnbull; granddaughters: Yanique Swan, Tameka DeWindt, Shaneil Turnbull and Lynnique Hodge; great-grandchildren: Donté Hodge, Delante Hodge, Jeanique Hodge Robinson, Ajahnique Hodge, Kerri Lynn Swan, Tiron DeWindt, T’Moi DeWindt, T’Mari Amory and Tenan DeWindt; great-great grandchildren: Karmen Hodge and Chloe Robinson; brothers: Cecil George, Roland George and Raymond George; sisters-in-law: Betty George, Diane George and Jeanette Smith; brother-in-law, T. Peter Davis; nephews: Ronald “Kumbo” Henry, Roland Henry, James H. George, Reuben George, Jede George, Galen George and Sadeo George; nieces: Roslyn Henry, Dr. Nathalie Johnson, Yulette George, Lynne Dorsey and Dr. Jeannine George; 22 great nieces and nephews; 10 great-great nieces and nephews; other families: David, DeGraff, Francis, George, Vessup, Moolenaar, Dossett, Morales, Battiste, Duran, VanBeverhoudt, Millin, Moron and Berry; caretaker, Dorothy “Kato” Williams; and many other cousins, godchildren, relatives and friends including the CAHS Class of 1947 and the Nisky Moravian Church family.
There will be a first viewing held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, at Davis Funeral Home Chapel. A second viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Nisky Moravian Church. Interment will be at Western Cemetery No. 1.

In lieu of flowers and in recognition of Mrs. Vessup’s 35 years as an elementary school teacher, the family requests that donations be made to the Moravian Church Multi-Purpose Education Facility Building Fund.
