One man was shot to death and another injured Saturday night in an incident at Water Gut, the V.I. Police Department confirmed Sunday.
It was the 20th homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of the year, the 38th in the territory.
Details of Saturday’s crime, including the names of victims, were unavailable late Sunday.
According to preliminary information, police received a report of shots being fired at about 11:15 p.m. Saturday in the vicinity of the bus terminal in Water Gut. Officers arriving on the scene found one man down and unresponsive. Witnesses said a second man had been taken to Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle.
Emergency medical personnel declared the man dead at the scene. The one taken to the hospital went into surgery and according to police is expected to survive.
Witnesses told police that masked men came on scene targeted a vehicle carrying the two victims and fired shots, then fled the scene.
