Firearm Stolen from Car in Christiansted

A St. Croix resident told police that his gun was stolen from inside his car in Christiansted, according to a Police Department press release issued Monday.

The gun owner told police he went into a business on Company Street about midnight Sunday. He left the business about four hours later and drove home. About 8:30 a.m. Monday, he went to check his firearm but realized that it was missing from the car.

The Police Department’s Firearm Unit reminds licensed gun owners that possessing a firearm is a serious responsibility. Police said the gun owner did the right thing by reporting the theft because the majority of firearms used in violent crimes were legally registered at one time.

However, if you are granted a license to carry a firearm, it is a violation to leave the weapon in any unsecured place, the Police Department said.
