Police on St. Thomas are investigating a shooting that injured two people near Coki Point Plaza about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the Police Department indicated in a press release issued Wednesday. One victim was shot in his upper back and another was shot in his ankle.

Police said they responded to a call of shots fired near the Coki Point Plaza. When they arrived on the scene one victim was being taken to the Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment. Several police officers and forensic technicians stayed to process the scene and talk to possible witnesses.

Other police traveled to the hospital and encountered a second victim arriving at the hospital by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to his ankle. He did not describe the suspect to the police.

The second victim told police that he was walking out of Lake’s Chicken Fry, heard shot being fired and realized he had been shot. He said he did not see who was shooting. He told police a friend took him to the hospital.

The case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives. Police urge anyone who has any information regarding this case to call detectives at 714-9834, 715-5522 or 1-800-222-8477.
