The V.I. Fire Service on Thursday afternoon sent a water tank truck, pumper truck, and pick-up to investigate smoke over Hawk Hill in Frenchman’s Bay, but the fire ended up being a permitted brush burn, Capt. Stephen Thompson said.
In light of the false alarm, Thompson and Assistant Director Daryl George reminded residents with outdoor burn permits that they need to call the Fire Service before starting the process. This will prevent the Fire Service from unnecessarily sending large trucks zooming through traffic, and will also save public funds and personnel power for true emergencies, they said.
Individuals planning to burn should contact George, or the Fire Service, at 774-7610.
