Melvin C. Thomas Dies

He was preceded in death by his father, Bertchel Thomas, mother, Leona Leerdam Samuel; sister, Vivian Thomas; Edelta Vanterpool and Beryl Lawson; He is survived by his sisters: Doris Smith, Jacqueline Lewis, Ivy Monsanto and JudyAnn Thomas; brothers: Alvin “Harry” Freeman, Geraldo “Shahimo” Leerdam and Bertchel “Butchie” Thomas Jr.; children: Joi Thomas, Duane Thomas and Alison Thomas; daughter-in-law, Sylvia Harris Thomas; grandson, Trent Farrington; aunts: Pearlita Leerdam Pannell, Norma Leerdam Harden, Adonia Leerdam Jennings and Gerda Samuel; uncles: Glenville Leerdam and Dorvin Fredericks; and brothers-in-law: Norris Griffin, Paul Lawson, Allessio Monsanto Sr., Albert Lewis and Edwardo Smith Sr.;
He is also survived by nieces: Sandra Robain, Desiree Hermon Rutledge, Lisa Smith Jones, Rochelle Smith and Allassia Monsanto; nephews: Dwight Francis, Tracy Richardson, Alton George, Richard Julius, Kevin Smith, Eduardo Smith Jr., Bruce Smith, Bertchel Thomas III, Allessio Monsanto Jr., Alcello Monsanto and Allron Monsanto; special cousins: Doris Henneman, Lorna Smith Richardson, Daphne Powell, Darlene Moore, Kim Washington, Denise Pannell, Bridget Thomas, Kathrina and Karen Crocker, Bennie Pannell, Keith Walters, Kevin Crocker, and Glen and Brian Thomas; special friends: Angela Spencer, Archibald Larcheveaux, Margarita Alcantara and Carmen Thomas; companion, Linda Chinnery; and other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
There will be a first viewing held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, at the Davis Funeral Home Chapel. A second viewing will be held at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 10, at Moravian Memorial Church. Interment will be at Eastern Cemetery.
