CFVI Announces Availability of 2011 Academic Scholarships

The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) announces the availability of 2011-2012 school year scholarship applications. Its scholarships are aimed at helping Virgin Islands students defray the costs of their college education, according to a press release from Dee Baecher-Brown, CFVI president. The foundation also announces the addition this year of the Jean Su MaEng-Kim and Charles M. Kim ’98 Scholarship to an ever increasing list of available scholarships.
Undergraduate Scholarships
A9-VI Recycling Inc. Scholarships: two scholarships of $5,000 each to graduation high school seniors pursuing a degree in environmental science or a related field.
Alexander A. Farrelly: one $1,000 scholarship in early childhood or health sciences
Artrelle M. Wheatley Scholarship: One year of full tuition the University of the Virgin Islands to a student with an outstanding record in community service who will have completed two semesters at UVI by June of 2009
Barry Law Enforcement Scholarship: Awarded to a graduating senior of Charlotte Amalie High School pursuing a degree in law enforcement
Charaf Family Scholarship: two $1,000 scholarships, preferably in the arts.
Coral World Scholarship: $3,500 to a student pursuing a four-year degree in science at any accredited college or university, with first preference going to applicants in the fields of environmental science or marine biology
Heavy Materials: four year scholarships of up to $3,750 a year to high school seniors who have, or whose parents have, resided in the USVI for at least 10 years, to attend college, technical school or vocational school
Government Employee Retirement System Scholarships: up to three renewable grants of approximately $3,500 each to a graduating high school student from St. Thomas, St. John and St Croix who are dependents of contributing members of GERS
Isaac and Rebecca Paeiwonsky Scholarship: $2,000 per year for up to four years to a graduate of Charlotte Amalie High School
Jean Su Maeng-Kim and Charles M. Kim ’98 Scholarship: up to $28,000 per year to a resident of the V.I. who intends to attend Binghamton University
Lana Vento Scholarship: awards of $1,000 for graduating high school students or undergraduate college students
Nigel O. Hodge Foundation Scholarship: $1,000 to a graduating senior who is interested in a degree related to health, medicine and nursing at an accredited college or university
Richard Noel Allen Scholarship: an award of $1,000 to a graduating senior, high school, GED graduate or undergraduate student pursuing a degree program in ministry or communications
Theodore E. Sharp Scholar Awards: $2,000 award to one student or $1,000 to two students with outstanding records in community service that have applied to or are already enrolled in an accredited college or university
Tunick Family Fund Scholarship: an award of $1,000 to a student at the University of the Virgin Islands with academic excellence and financial need who is pursuing an undergraduate degree in business
William Otto and Shari Decker Music Scholarship: up to $5,000 in scholarships to graduating students from Charlotte Amalie High School and or Ivanna Eudora Kean High School who plan to major in music
David and Shawn McBride: a $1,500 scholarship award to a graduating senior or undergraduate college student
Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation Scholarship: a $1,000 award to a graduating senior
Virgin Islands Association of Legal Assistants (VIALA) Scholarship: a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior or undergraduate college student
Anna Walsh Scholar Awards: ten scholarships of $1,000 awarded to students who have applied to or are already enrolled in any accredited college or university
Graduate Scholarships
In addition to the scholarships for undergraduate students, CFVI also has the following scholarships available for students pursuing graduate degrees:
Cynthia DeHaynes Health Science Scholarship: $3,000 a student pursuing graduate studies in alternative medicine, pharmacy or nursing
NSL Graduate Studies Fund Scholarship: an award of $2,000 to a student pursuing a graduate degree in the humanities, the social sciences or the fine arts
CAHS Alumni Physician Scholarship Fund: $5,000 per year for a four year period to a CAHS graduate who attended CAHS for at least three years, has resided in the V.I. for at least five years, and who has been accepted into an accredited U.S. medical school

Completed scholarship applications and all accompanying documentation must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 18, 2011 and mailed to:

The community Foundation of the Virgin Islands will formally announce award winners in June at CFVI’s annual meeting.
