The U.S. Virgin Islands has the highest HIV and AIDS per capita rate in the United States. This makes the territory a high risk jurisdiction for contracting and transmitting HIV. At a recent HIV prevention conference, members of the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) stated that persons who know their HIV status are less likely than those who do not to transmit HIV to uninfected persons. Nov. 11-18, HOPE Inc. will host a Thanksgiving Special. A free HIV test (results as you wait), will qualify participants for a free frozen turkey. Free HIV informational brochures and other HIV prevention products will also be given away at the event.
