District Hosts Best Practices Conference for School Personnel

School-based personnel will participate in the Best Practices Conference on Aug. 26 and 27, at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa. The two-day conference, a collaborative of the St. Thomas-St. John District and the International Center for Leadership in Education (ICLE),will feature national model schools and rapidly improving schools from the territory, according to a press release from St. Thomas-St. John District Superintendent of Schools Jeanette Smith-Barry.
Smith-Barry said, “During the two-day conclave, district participants, which include administrators, teaching professionals, paraprofessionals, counselors, nurses and other school-based persons, will receive valuable information and training in successful practices used to improve student achievement and leadership strategies. The keynote presentation, Rigor, Relevance and Relationships – Moving from Needs to Action, will begiven by Jim Warford, senior advisor for the ICLE and executive director of the Florida Association of School Administrators. Also presenting will be Dr. Paul D. Nussbaum, clinical neuropsychologist and adjunct associate professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; and Susan Kovalik,senior advisor with theInternational Center for Leadership in Education(Federal Way, Washington).
Conference registration starts at 7:15 a.m. followed by the district welcome, orientation and a keynote address at 9 a.m. Both days will conclude with a general session at 3:30 p.m.
