Brief: Fight Leads to Death of Estate Tutu Man

May 11, 2009 — Police on St. Thomas have arrested Kareem Victorin, 22, of Estate Tutu on manslaughter charges in the death of 21-year-old Derique Williams of Estate Wintberg. The incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the area of the Tutu Park Mall on St. Thomas.
Officers were dispatched to the mall in response to reports of two men whose arguing had escalated into a fight, according to police.
Police reports indicate Victorin said he was holding the victim until the police arrived, but the victim passed out at the scene. Victorin told police he was holding the victim in a choke hold. Emergency medical technicians present on the scene said the victim had poor vital signs. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Roy Lester Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Further classification of charges against Victorin as voluntary or involuntary manslaughter will be determined by the Attorney General's Office, according to St. Thomas/St. John/Water Island Chief of Police Rodney F. Querrard Sr. Victorin was held without bail pending his advice-of-rights hearing.
