Brief: Fee Hiked for Autos Towed From Downtown

April 17, 2008 — Beginning immediately and continuing until Saturday, May 3, the standard rate for all vehicles towed from downtown will be $90, according to a statement from St. Thomas-Water Island Administrator Barbara Petersen.
Once a vehicle is ticketed for double parking or obstructing the traffic in any way, it will be removed to an undisclosed location. The driver must then notify the V.I. Police Department, who will then inform them of where their vehicle is being held.
Petersen, Darryl Lewis of the Department of Property and Procurement, Police Chief Rodney Querrard and other members of the police, met with local wrecker operators Tuesday to discuss the parking violations rate during Carnival.
“I believe it was necessary for all stakeholders to be on the same page,” Petersen said. “This has been a recurring problem in the past and we wanted to make sure things were clear as it relates to parking and traffic regulations during the Carnival season.”
