April 17, 2008 – Taxi and tour operators who want to receive certification are urged to register for the upcoming course offered by the University of the Virgin Islands Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning Center. The six-week Taxi and Tour Certification program will be held from 6-8 pm, beginning Thursday, May 1, on St. Thomas.
The program educates taxi and tour operators on customer service, V.I. history and culture, points of interest and presentation skills. The training will cost $250, which includes materials. In order to receive certification, students are required to pass a 100-question exam and put the presentation skills acquired in class to use. Upon successful completion, they will receive a certificate of completion and a certification identification card.
The certification program was developed by UVICELL Center and is endorsed by the USVI Hotel and Tourism Association, and the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association.
