Feb. 2, 2007 — The Bob Owens slow pitch league-leading Wyatt Heat stormed back from an early four-run deficit Thursday night, scoring 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning to shock the defending champions Seaborne Stealers 19-11.
The huge Heat comeback started with them trailing 11-7 and down to their final out in the top of the seventh, when Stealers outfielder Eustace Davis misplayed a line drive off the bat of Steve Rosario, which hit off his glove and over the fence for a two-run home run. The flood gates were wide open after that as the Heat went on to pound out 10 hits, including four home runs, in their big comeback inning.
The Stealers were the aggressors early as they scored in their first three innings, while the Heat was the exact opposite, posting goose eggs in the top half of the first three frames.
The Stealers got three in the bottom of the first on a three-run home run off the bat of Guido Schjang. They added two in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by Tony McGregor and three in the bottom of the third on solo shots by Ronald Schjang and Owen Pimentel and an RBI single by Brandon Biggs to lead 8-0 after three.
The Heat finally got on the board in the top of the fourth on solo home runs by Steve Rosario and Dexter DeSouza to trail 8-2 after four complete innings.
A two-run shot by David Gonzalez in the top of the fifth, brought the Heat even closer at 8-4, but the Stealers answered with three in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 11-4. It would be, unfortunately for the Stealers, the last inning they would score in this game. All they could do was watch helplessly as the Heat completed their comeback over the next two innings.
The Heat was one run behind going in to the seventh, at 8-7, after plating three runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Freddie Carasquillo and a two-run throwing error by the Stealers shortstop.
They then exploded for their big 12-run seventh, batting around in the process. The 12 runs came on a three-run home run by Andre Ponce, two two-run home runs by Rosario and DeSouza, a solo shot by Ponce (his second home run of the inning), a two-run single by Dwayne Harvey and RBI singles by Carasquillo and Gilbert Knight.
Brad Aminis nabbed the win for the Heat, while Samuel Ramos got the loss.
