Cycling Season to Kick Off on Sunday

Jan. 11, 2007 – The Virgin Islands Cycling Federation announced the start of the 2007 racing season. The popular Anything Goes No. 1 Race will be held on Sunday, Jan. 14. The race will start at 7 a.m., at the store at La Vallee on St. Croix's North Shore and will finish at the Clover Crest pillars in Frederiksted. What makes the Anything Goes series so interesting is that there is no fixed course or type of bicycle required.
Each rider can choose to ride a road bike on any number of routes, including climbing the Beast or La Valle hills, or take the longer but flatter choices of Midland or Centerline roads. On top of that, mountain bikers can tackle Scenic Road and risk taking the steep climbs and descents there. During the race, most riders will have no idea what choices other competitors have made, which can be a nerve wracking way to race.
For the first time in VICF history, there will be a season-long women's category, to go along with the three men's divisions. The top three women finishers will now have their points added to their team totals, thereby making their results important additions to the chase for the team championship.
Registration will be from 6:30-6:50 a.m., at the La Vallee store. For more information, go to www.vicf.org.
