Brief: School Official Reiterates Cell Phone Ban

Dec. 4, 2006 — St. Croix Superintendent Cecelia Knowles issued a terse statement Monday reminding both parents and students that cell phones are prohibited on school campuses.
The possession and or usage of cellular phones on school campuses in the district are strictly prohibited according to school policy began Superintendent Knowles.
The cellular phone is sometimes given to students by parents for emergency purposes," Knowles wrote. "However, students are now using them to perpetrate illegal and antisocial activities and are seldom used according to the guidelines as specified by parents.
Superintendent Knowles urged parents to assist the department in encouraging students to abide by the school policy.
Cellular phones are not allowed on school campuses, said Knowles. In case of illness or other emergencies, we are continuing with the traditional manner of relaying information to all concerned. Parents are further encouraged to call their childs school office to relay emergency messages when necessary."
The release concluded: "Cellular telephones have no place in the classrooms or on the school campuses.
