UVI Holds Agricultural Fair This Weekend

Nov. 15, 2005 – Just in time for to stock up for Thanksgiving, the University of the Virgin Islands is holding its annual Agriculture Fair this weekend on the Reichhold Center grounds.
Keep Agriculture Alive in 2005 is the event's theme, and all manner of growing and grown things will be available – flowering and non-flowering plants, eggplants, chickens, fresh eggs, collard greens, all kinds of bush tea, jams, jellies, chutneys and local drinks, according to the press release from the Agricultural Fair committee.
And food, loads of food — booths selling everything from vegetarian dishes to local favorites, fish and fungi, sweet tarts, pates and stewed dishes.
Children will have the traditional pony cart rides, a petting zoo, as well as displays of larger animals.
Locally made goods are featured and colorful displays of arts and crafts, including hand-made carvings, dolls and clothing will also be on display.
An opening day ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, featuring Gov. Charles W. Turnbull, members of the Legislature, and representatives from the fair's organizing groups.
The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.
