MAKING WAVES: WHAT'S THERE TO LISTEN TO?

Aug. 2, 2001 – Here's some of the locally produced and hosted special-interest radio programing available in coming days in the Virgin Islands.
On a weekly basis, the Source will publish specific current-week information provided by show hosts and station program directors. For details, see the editor's note below.
WIUJ Radio (non-commercial station) – 102.9 FM, St. Thomas
"Catfish," Saturday, Aug. 4, 8-10 p.m. — From the depths of the vinyl vault, the Catfish shall emerge once again with an eclectic sampling of music guaranteed to make you purr. Rock, blues, boogie, ska, jump, swing, soul, oddities — tunes you remember and tunes you may not ever have heard. This Saturday is a full moon. Who says cats don't howl!
"Sunday Classics with Charlene," Sunday, Aug. 5, noon-1 p.m. — Charlene celebrates the birthday of classical crossover artist Mark O'Connor, who played at an Arts Alive concert on St. Thomas a couple of years ago. The program focuses on classics by the masters with background about the composers and the performing artists.
"The Doug Lewis Show," Sunday, Aug. 5, 1-3 p.m. — A look at artists scheduled to play at this weekend's Winterhawk Festival in east central New York state will feature music by artists such as Steve Forbert, Guy Clark, Vassar Clements, Alison Brown and Geno Delafose. Doug will celebrate the birthdays of multi-Grammy winning artist Mark O'Connor, Greg Leskiw of the Guess Who, and Rick Huxley of the Dave Clark Five; and the anniversary of record releases by the Beatles, Animals, and Moody Blues. The show mixes roots rock, classic rock, folk, blues, Celtic, Cajun and Americana with lots of trivia and a historical perspective.

Editor's note: The Source invites local radio show hosts and stations to submit material for inclusion in future postings of Making Waves. Information may be e-mailed to source@viaccess.net or faxed to 777-8136. Material must be received by Wednesday of each week for posting on Thursday. Items must refer to specific days' offerings on programs that are locally produced and hosted (see examples above), and cannot be repeated from week to week. Include the station call letters, common name, AM/FM location and day and time that the show will air; if the program is data-streamed online, provide the URL, too.
