The Senate minority flexed its muscle Thursday and refused to join in voting for an override of Gov. Charles W. Turnbull's veto of Sen. Emmett Hansen II's 2001 Infrastructure Maintenance Act of 2001. Two majority members withheld their support as well, as the effort went down to defeat.

"Blow, Archie, Blow" went the lyrics of one of the Virgin Islands' most renowned songs, a trademark of the Archie Thomas Band. "It's only the sax I play professionally," he said once in an interview, "but I can teach even what I can't play." Thomas, who died on Sunday, July 14, did a lot of playing and a lot of teaching, leaving a lot of people with fond memories of his music, and many with the skills to carry it on.

COURTS REJECT EMBEZZLEMENT FIGURE'S APPEALS

Lydia Magras, one of two St. Thomas women convicted in connection with the embezzlement of about $1.7 million from a Little Switzerland store, is back in custody, having lost appeals before the appellate division of U.S. District Court and the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
