Ira Nelson Martin Dies at 59

Ira Nelson Martin Ira Nelson Martin died at Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center on Friday, Sept. 4.
He is predeceased by his brother, David Drew.
He is survived by his partner, Linda Smith; sons: Ayinde and Samuel “Sam Sam”; daughter, Sharina; sisters-in-law: Priscilla Drew, Cathleen Smith, Esther Smith Pickering, Diana Smith Edwards and Sarah Dahl Smith; brothers-in-law: Godfrey and Clinton Weekes, Dennis and Robert Smith; father-in-law, Warren Smith; special niece and nephew: Lisa and Nigel Drew; goddaughter, Shannon Lynch; and special cousins: the Byron and Williams families, Sarah Scatliffe, William “Fuzzy” Penn and Mario James.
Other survivors include the Smith and Penn families of the British Virgin Islands, Ruthlyn Frederick, Andrés Ovesen and the Complete Business Systems family; special friends: Addison Denning, Alberto VanGurp, and Judge Harold Willock, Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Hale, the alumni of St. Mary’s and St. Joseph Catholic schools, the Randall A. “Doc” James Racetrack family, Magicians Club, LaReine Chicken Shack, the Marshal & Sterling family, Dorchester Insurance family; the Budget Rent-a-Car team, the UVI family, the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Cardiac Center family; and a host of friends and colleagues too numerous to mention.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Divine Funeral Services Chapel.
A second viewing will be held at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Christiansted. Internment will be at Kingshill Cemetery Veteran Section.
