“Dinner with a Doctor” Unites Naturopathic and Conventional Approaches at SRMC Hospital

The management and staff of Schneider Regional Medical Center welcome interested members of the community to this month’s “Dinner with the Doctor” on Thursday, August 29. The featured physicians will include Leroy Sterling, MD a cardiologist at the Schneider Regional Medical Center who specializes in heart and lungs, Morgan Monsanto, ND, a Naturopathic Doctor at the Virgin Islands Natural Medicine and Carolyn Miller, PhD, LCD, a licensed clinical psychologist at Ashar Counseling and Psychological Services, LLC.

“Our Virgin Islands Caribbean families and global communities deserve holistic and wholesome health, sustainable wellness and prosperity that respects our unique and essential needs effectively,” Dr. ChenziRa Davis Kahina, event moderator.

The panel discussion on naturopathic, alternative, and western medicine will begin with a brief introduction of each panelist explaining their specialties in the fields of medicine and plant-based diets. Some questions will include the main strengths and limitations of various approaches to medicine, how the physicians approach patient care and treatment plans, success story examples where the approaches have been particularly effective, some common misconceptions about their field, and how they see the future of integrated healthcare evolving.

Panelists will provide links to case studies or real-world examples of holistic treatment for chronic illness, examples and benefits of incorporating plant-based food into diets, surgical intervention or pharmaceutical treatment. There will also be a discussion on how an integrated approach could benefit the patient in each case.

There will be vendor presentations between 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and complimentary food tasting from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm along with a panel discussion with a question-and-answer segment. Partner vendors include Love Livin VI, Speedy Redemption, St. Thomas USVI Vegan Restaurant Vegan Raw Food & Sandwich Deli, Miss Naturalista, Barefoot Buddha, Freshii – Health Zone and Impact Schomoothies.

The event is open to the public to join the discussion and ask questions both in person and online on the Schneider Regional Medical Center’s Facebook page.
