During a traffic stop Monday on St. Croix, officers of the V.I. Police Department arrested two men and charged them with violating the territory’s firearms laws.
According to the police eport. at about 3:25 p.m. Monday officers in the area of Mon Bijou stopped a car operated by 20-year-old D’Andre Friday of Mon Bijou. Rahmeak Jackson, 23 of Hermon Hill, was a passenger in the car.
During the course of the traffic stop, detectives recovered a loaded firearm resulting in the arrest of Friday and Jackson.
The men were charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. Bail for Friday and Jackson was set at $50,000 each. Unable to post bail, both men were turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections, pending their advice of rights hearings.
St. Croix District Chief of Police Sidney Elskoe congratulated the officers for making the arrests.
“Our officers are working diligently to take guns off the streets. We continue to ask for the community’s support by telling us what you know,” Elskoe said.
