The family of William Joseph Anthony Alexander (best known to his friends as Tony Alexander) will be holding an open house from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, at the St. Croix Coliseum at 223 Estate Glynn. The public is welcome to meet Tony’s family and help them celebrate his life.
Tony passed away in Miami, Fla., on June 2, following an ongoing battle with cancer. He was loved by his family, friends and the many people who experienced his enthusiasm for life, kindness and generosity.
Tony was born on St. Croix on Jan. 16, 1938, to John L. Alexander and Else Beatty, and he remained a proud Crucian his entire life. Raised on the Estate Mary’s Fancy family farm with his sister, Patricia, and brother, Mike, Tony graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School and traveled to California where he eventually joined the Marines Corps on July 11, 1957. He was a proud U.S. citizen and Marine.
In 1963, after his tour in the service, Tony returned to St. Croix to work at Texaco, where he also met and worked with some of his closest friends. He was well known for Alexander Sales and Service, a business he started from the back of his station wagon as well as for his love and support of the island’s cultural sporting events. He led a full life.
Tony is survived by his wife, Diane Cary Alexander; siblings: Sister Patricia Alexander and Michael Alexander; children: Gail Bishard (Brent), John A. Alexander (Lisa), Nya Alexander (JC Castillos) and Dyan Alexander (Ricardo Velez); grandchildren: Anthony Line (Shannon), Lori Bishard, Lauren Alexander, Christopher Roman, John C. Alexander, Kristen Alexander, Nyssa Castillo, Kalani Castillo, Myla Castillo and Hannah Velez; and great-grandchildren: Madison Line, Konner Line, Kutter Metelski, Shayla Bishard and Emma Roman, nephews: Brian Preiss (and family) and Adrian Preiss (and family).
