One Arrested in Sunday Murder, Second Suspect Sought

One man was arrested Thursday and police are hunting for a second in the Sunday shooting death of 33-year-old Alfredo De La Rosa-Villar, the V.I. Police Department announced.

Police on St. Thomas arrested 29-year-old Edrit Roman Reyes Florian at about 9 p.m. Thursday and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death. He is also charged with first-degree assault, four counts of unauthorized use of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, and aiding and abetting.

An arrest warrant has also been issued for Jarial DeJesus, also known as Preily A. Pegurro-Garo. Police said DeJesus is considered armed and dangerous. Detectives are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspect, who witnesses said was a shooter in Villar’s murder.

The killing took place at approximately 6:14 p.m. Sunday in Estate Anna’s Retreat, in the vicinity of Alaska Bar, police said. A man later identified as De La Rosa-Villar, a national of the Dominican Republic and a resident of Estate Bovoni, was shot multiple times, according to the report. De La Rosa-Villar was transported to the Schneider Medical Center where he later died.

According to police, Florian was one of two men witnesses identified as being involved in the incident, and an arrest warrant was issued. Further information uncovered by detectives led to a second arrest warrant, this one for DeJesus.
