Edna Victoria Murrain, 76, died on June 4. Services were held on Friday, June 22, in New York, NY. Edna was born on Oct. 7, 1935, in Hood Street, St. John’s, Antigua. In 1964 Edna migrated to St. Thomas and raised her daughter, Beverly Lydeatte. As a trained chef, Edna worked in some of St. Thomas’ five star hotels and restaurants. She was a member of Christ Church Methodist, St. Thomas Woman’s League; St. Thomas Lioness Club; twice elected National Treasurer of the Steel Workers Union of America; and a member of the Beulah Wesleyan Methodist Church Choir.
In 1994, when Beverly became a mother, Edna moved to New York to help raise her twin granddaughters, Aleah and Alanna, and was their nurturer and matriarch. Edna had a special love for the Wesleyan Methodist Church, especially the songs she grew up singing in church. She also loved to entertain, but most of all she loved to cook and eat good food!
Edna is survived by her sister, Edith Salmon; sister/niece, Coralie Brown; brother, Doswald Murrain; daughter, Beverly Lydeatte; granddaughters: Aleah and Alanna Hepburn; nieces: Francilla Simon, Sharon Govia, Yvonne Homer, Charlene Brown-Reid, Tricia, Trevonne and Thia Homer, Eileen, Celine, Connie, Lois Murraine, Pashanique and Dayvonne Brown; nephews: Joseph and Devon Brown, Fitzgerald, Orneal and Vanier Murraine, Heraldo and Jon Simon; goddaughter, Gwyneth Myke; close friends: Ida King, Victoria (Ms. Baby) Richards, Yvonne Gumbs, Marcelle Edwards, Doris, Shirley and Shirleen; and many other special family and friends too numerous to mention.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support.
