Hurricanes School Vikings, 10-1, in Midweek Baseball Action

Geronimo “Roach” Newton, the 40 Plus Hurricanes’ pitching ace, continued his mastery in the Raphael Jackson AA Baseball League as he pitched his team to a 10-1 victory over the Vikings Wednesday night at the D.C. Canegata ballpark.

The Vikings, who were flying high after a dominating win against the Dominicanos on Sunday, had the wind let out of their sails by the veteran left hander. Eleven bases on balls by Vikings pitching did not help matters either, and the Hurricanes were able to take full advantage with some timely hitting mixed in between those walks.

The Hurricanes, in the 10-1 pummeling, scored nine runs on eight hits with two errors, while the Vikings finished with one run on four hits and one error.

Newton allowed one run on four hits in seven innings of work to pick up the victory, while Shawn Matos got the loss.

Top batters for the winners were Carlos Morales (2 for 2 with two RBIs), Javier Encarnacion (1 for 2 with two RBIs) and Ray Defraitas (1 for 2 with two RBIs). For the Vikings Arthur Canaii was 2 for 3 and Collin Williams was 1 for 1.
