Hotel and Tourism Association Names First Recipient of Scholarship

The St. Croix Hotel and Tourism Association has announced that Christopher Schreiber is its first recipient for the 2010 Richard Patrick Henry Hospitality Scholarship. The award value is $2,500.

The presentation will take place at 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at The Company House Hotel in Christiansted.
Christopher, a 2009 graduate of Country Day School on St. Croix, is currently enrolled at the College of Charleston and majoring in both hospitality and tourism management and business administration.
In his essay, Schreiber stated some of the reasons for choosing a major in hospitality: his love of people, his love and pride in St. Croix and wanting to be able to share his passion for its beauty and culture one day through managing or owning a hotel or boat charter company.
The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage professional development within the visitor and hospitality industry by awarding scholarships to high school seniors, college students and non-traditional students who are permanent residents of St. Croix and are graduating from an accredited high school or are enrolled as hospitality-industry majors at a two or four-year higher education accredited institution, including online studies.
