A 20-year-old security guard at the Carambola Hotel was shot and killed sometime between 1 and 6:30 a.m. Sunday, according to St. Croix Police.
The victim was later identified as Iver James Jr., 20, of Estate Mount Pleasant.
According to police reports, the St. Croix E911 system received a report Sunday morning of a body that had sustained multiple gunshot wounds near the Carambola.
The preliminary investigation revealed that James was employed as a security guard at the hotel and was on duty early Sunday morning. He was last seen by coworkers at his post about 1 a.m., police said.
The victim’s body was found approximately 200 yards from the hotel entrance.
