Police Make Arrest in Sunday Stabbing Death

Jan. 30, 2007– Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the stabbing death of 37-year-old St. Thomas resident Glenn Blyden, killed Sunday afternoon near Lionel Roberts Stadium.
According to a Police press release, Chris Carty, 27, was arrested at 6:10 p.m. Tuesday at the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he was being treated for injuries allegedly sustained during the fight with Blyden.
Carty, a resident of Princesse Gade, is being held without bail pending an advice of rights hearing.
According to the VIPD release, "Police reports indicate that between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on Sunday … Carty entered a yard in the Hospital Ground area where Mr. Blyden was playing dominoes with some friends. According to reports, a physical altercation between Carty and Blyden ensued. During the course of the altercation, Mr. Blyden was fatally injured by a stab wound to the neck."
In addition to the deceased, one other people was stabbed in the incident and was taken to SRMC for treatment.
Carty is being charged with murder in the first degree and possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a crime of violence.
