May 24, 2004 – Rain don't stop the carnival, but it can delay the occasional concert. Such is the case with the Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted May performance by trumpeter Stan Joines and the Central High School Jazz Combo that was planned for last Friday.
For the first time in two and a half years of concerts on the third Friday of each month, the event was put on hold for a week.
Last Thursday, with the wet stuff streaming down in torrents on St. Croix's West End, the forecast was for more of the same over the next 12 hours. So, Sunset Jazz publicist Bridget Cox-Dawson says, after conferring with the artists, the sound technicians and the personnel at WTJX-TV, which tapes the concerts for broadcast later, the sponsoring Frederiksted Economic Development Association decided to postone the concert to May 28.
As had been announced earlier, a temporary change of venue goes into effect with this Sunset Jazz concert. Veterans Park, home to the series from the start, is to undergo improvements as part of the Frederiksted Revitalization Project. While that work is under way, performances will be held at Fort Frederik Beach Park.
As usual, the music will go from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., FEDA will operate a cash bar and Hispanos Unidos will sell food.
